How Will Grandma Get There? Santa Monica is a great area for guests, and there are a lot of hotel options. However, keep in mind that because it’s a popular destination, rooms will be on the more expensive side. With that said, there are reputable hotels such as a the DoubleTree in addition to pricer options like the Fairmont and The Viceroy. It’s an easy cab ride from the hotel to the venue.

The Report:

Now a public facility, the beach house was once private. It was built in the 1920’s by William Randolph Hearst for actress Marion Davies. The property, once considered a “hot spot” in the Gold Coast era was by architect Julia Morgan, and featured 100-plus rooms and an ornate marble pool. It went on to become a private beach club in 1947, and was eventually sold to the state of California in 1959. It was revamped in 2009 to become a community beach house, and while it got a more modern design it still retains the vintage  features of the Marion Davies era. As a wedding venue, you essentially have three spaces to choose from: the Marion Davies Guest House, the Event House, and the Pool House, with room options/combos available within each.

Woman Getting Married Says:

I really like this as a venue. Considering I live extremely close to it, I know just how well situated it is…it’s right on the beach but it’s still far enough down from where the bulk of the tourist action happens. I love the combination of vintage and modern….and while you have to see which space best suits your wedding size, I think the Marion Davies Guest House is a great and affordable option. The main bummer for me is that you can only have beer and wine and no spirits. I think that can be limiting for a large number of people (and who doesn’t want a fun drink!), but if you think your crowd won’t mind then I highly suggest you visit the venue.
