Wedding Song: Tennessee Whiskey

We loved, LOVED the awesome performance of Chris Stapleton and Justin Timberlake performing Stapleton’s cover of “Tennessee Whiskey” (it’s originally a George Jones song) at last nights CMA Awards. The duo sounded great together, and we really wish they would record their version of “Tennessee Whiskey” so you could use it as the perfect wedding song. Even if they don’t, however, Chris Stapleton’s version of it is just as great (below). Here are the lyrics, which are pretty romantic for a first dance song.

I used to spend my nights out in a barroom
Liquor was the only love I’ve known
But you rescued me from reaching for the bottle
And you brought me back from being too far gone
Your as smooth as Tennessee whiskey
Your as sweet as strawberry wine
Your as warm as a glass of brandy
And I stay stoned on your love all the time
I look for love in all the same old places
Found the bottom of the bottle always dry
But when you poured out your heart, I didn’t waste it
‘Cause there nothing like your love to gettin’ me high
Your as smooth as Tennessee whiskey
Your as sweet as strawberry wine
Your as warm as a glass of brandy
And I stay stoned on your love all the time.
I stay stoned on your love all the time
