We love hearing from wedding bands about which songs they absolutely love to play. It’s such a great way to not only discover fun wedding song you might have never heard of before, but it often reminds us of tunes that we used to LOVE but haven’t heard in forever (or songs that we can never remember the name of!).
Downbeat LA —home to some of our favorite LA wedding bands such as AMFM, Gold Standard, and Soultones—shared their must-have wedding songs with us. From the first dance to the last dance (and everything in between) we’re loving these old and new picks for your wedding.

What is a Fun Wedding Song?
Ahhh, the quintessential wedding question! A fun wedding song is one that can cross generations and appeal to every wedding guest. Sure, there are some exceptions. For instance, I love pretty much any Beastie Boys song and would classify them as fun, but my Aunt might not. With that said, a good beat can usually be appreciated by everyone, and all of these songs have that!
One thing to keep in mind is the lyrics. You’ll want to pick fun wedding songs that are danceable, but also aren’t too crass. If they are, have your band or DJ play the “clean” version of the song.

Fun Wedding Songs FAQ
This song is called a recessional, and you can never go wrong with vintage classics. Think hits from the 60s-80s! We walked back down the aisle to Whole Wide World by Wreckless Eric and it was really fun! Just remember to have your DJ start the song at the pivotal point of the song. For instance we had the DJ start the song at the 0:55 second mark (listen to it here and hear what I’m talking about!).
Ideally you should pick a song that’s less than 4 minutes long. Anything longer and you risk you and your guests getting bored.
They key is to not only pick a great song (you can see our first dance song picks here), but to feel comfortable dancing. Some couples opt to take dance lessons, to either put on a show or just learn a few moves, and we always recommend that! Otherwise you might just stand in one place swaying back and forth, which isn’t fun for anyone!
