Mark Badgley and James Mischka launched their clothing line, Badgley Mischka, in 1988. The two talented designers and partners met while studying at Parsons School of Design in New York. After graduating both found jobs in New York City; Badgley with Donna Karan and Mischka for the men’s collection for WilliWear WilliSmith. With the help of their families, both designers borrowed $250,000 in order to help create their vision of “Old Hollywood-style gowns” to create become one of the “Top 10 American Designers,” according to Vogue.
“Our philosophy is, ‘One zip and you’re glamorous,'” Badgley told People. “When you get dressed for evening, you shouldn’t have to work hard at it.” Stylish celebrities like Winona Ryder, Sarah Jessica Parker, Sharon Stone and Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen (past and present spokesmodels for the brand) seem to agree, and have worn their body-hugging, beautifully beaded designs to red carpet events and more.
In 1996 they started their now extremely successful bridal line, which features wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses, engagement rings, and more. While embellished evening wear is still their forte, their bridal line has quickly become a favorite among brides.
Where to Buy: The Badgley Mischka flagship store is located in Beverly Hills. Woman Getting Married Says: We love how unique each Badgley Mischka dress is. Their styles range from bohemian and edgy to classic and timelessly elegant. The one thing they all have in common, however, is their attention to detail. Often with intricate beading, fabrics, and silhouettes, we were a really big fan of their 2022 collection!
