Country weddings are everything they’re cracked up to be. The smell of wood, hay, lots of string lights hangin’ around and the sound of shoes on the dance floor, swaying to everything from Bluegrass to Jazz to Modern Country or Pop. The beauty of country weddings is that they can be as laid back or posh as you want them to be, which is why there are so many amazing country wedding ideas there.
Whether you’re throwing a country wedding for 20 or 200, in a barn or in an urban loft, you don’t necessarily have to be outside OR in the country to have one. A lot of country wedding ideas can be just as at home in New York as Tennessee. I actually prefer country weddings in a city setting–they’re that much more unexpected and fun!
I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite country wedding ideas, below, to show what you can do with everything from your wedding dress to your bar or wedding invitations. And keep in mind that just because certain setups are outside (like the ceremony seating on hay bales), these can easily be transformed to work in a city dwelling, too.
Tulle paired with denim or plaid is SO amazing for the bride, flower girls, or bridesmaids. And who can forget the cowboy boots?!
When it comes to men’s fashion, linen, tweed, and cotton are country wedding staples for guys (depending on the season). And this bullet shell boutonniere is super clever!
Put those cowboy hats to good use: Have the ring bearer or flower girls carry one down the aisle. You can also use them to hold flowers on your wedding tables.
Speaking of flowers, you can never go wrong with simple and sweet at country weddings…
Incorporate wood and cotton into your wedding bouquet for a truly Southern feel.
Have fun with your bar displays!
I don’t know if it qualifies as a country wedding without mason jars. Just kidding???
Don’t skimp on the lights!
Use lightweight fabrics for your tablecloths and drapes to provide a texture balance.
Rustic doors and wood panels can be used for ceremony decor or as a fun guestbook! Bonus? You can use them down the road in a new house. 🙂
Horshshoes can double as both escort cards and wedding favors. Just be sure to tell guests to hang them so they make a U-shape on the inside of their front door.
Hay bales with quilts on top are perfect for ceremony seating.
Keep your wedding invitations rustic, but don’t be afraid to add a pop of color (and flowers!)
Naked cakes were made for country weddings. Top them with fruit and flowers for a rustic look.
Turn apples into candles for a fall country wedding.
