Megan and Mike’s big day was nothing short of a boho-lover’s dream, splashed with vibrant tropical hues, right in the heart of Brooklyn. Their wedding at the W Loft in Williamsburg wasn’t just about saying “I do”; it was a full-on celebration of their unique love story, wrapped in eclectic elegance and whimsical touches. Imagine sunset colors, DIY magic, and that unbeatable NYC skyline coming together to create something truly spectacular.
This couple knows how to throw a party! Their day was chock-full of personal touches – from Megan’s architectural genius shining through in those laser-cut table signs (wait till you hear about the DIY process!) to the adorable flamingo references. And let’s not forget the cheeky nod to their beloved beagle with that cake topper. It wasn’t just a wedding; it was Megan and Mike in party form.
Choosing the W Loft was a stroke of genius. This raw space in Brooklyn allowed them to handpick every little detail – and perhaps not surprisingly, this DIY route even saved them a few bucks. (They brought in their own alcohol, which helps you save A LOT. Check out their full budget breakdown at the bottom of this post.)

Inspiration behind the day + design
“When planning our boho loft New York City wedding, we wanted to combine an eclectic, boho feel with tropical colors and flowers. What resulted was a perfect blend of colorful and elegant with sunset hues backed by the city skyline to pull it all together. Our wedding included lots of DIY touches including laser-cut table signs (we would love to share a tutorial on how we did this), pink feathers at each of the place settings, and an ode to our favorite animal — the flamingo. Most of all, we wanted to throw a giant party for our nearest and dearest friends and family. The wedding was filled with personal touches like Mike’s best friend officiating, our parents all walking us down the aisle, and a small beagle cake topper (representing our not-so-wedding-friendly dog). We served tacos for dinner and had a nine-piece band perform our favorite songs.”
Location and venue details
“We wanted to keep things local, so we opted to get married in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Our venue, the W Loft, is a raw space, which meant we would need to bring in all of the decor ourselves. However, it seemed worth it once we looked out its large windows toward the sweeping views of Manhattan. Although it seemed daunting, it was great to be able to choose every detail from furniture to catering, and all the decor. As an added bonus, we actually found that bringing in things ourselves kept costs down.”
DIY projects for the day
“As mentioned above, the biggest DIY project was making laser-cut tabletop signs. I studied architecture in college and wanted to use my laser-cutting skills for the wedding. I created my own templates for the layered designs, and printed and painted each sign. Pairing rattan patterns with cutout anthurium flowers and leaves, the signs really brought the tables together and helped weave the sunset color theme throughout the venue. I also designed the invitations, the save the dates, and the logo for our frosted cups. A writer, Mike wrote the wedding website.”
Couple’s personal story
“I met Mike on Match.com after setting my dating radius to under a mile. Despite being a seven-minute walk apart in Astoria, Queens, we had never met before. One evening after Mike returned from his best friend’s bachelor party, we met at a local dive bar. Although it’s a little hazy — did we have three drinks or was it five? — we left our first date knowing we definitely needed to see each other again. We still live in Astoria with our 7-year-old beagle, Heartly.”
Favorite memories of the day
The whole day was incredibly special, but standout memories include:
- My mom and matron of honor joining us for our first look.
- Watching my nieces and nephews dance and enjoy their first trip to New York City
- Sharing our personalized vows; it was so touching to be able to share our commitment to each other with our closest friends.
- Dancing the night away to our favorite ‘90′ songs.
