Let’s be honest — who wouldn’t want to get married in the Bahamas? With gorgeous weather, an endless list of things to do, and a location that’s easy to get to (especially for those on the east coast!), it’s safe to say the Bahamas are a dream for couples.
For starters, there are abundant outdoor adventures to keep you busy. Most islands have walking tours to guide you through their cultural treasures — be it ancient ruins or famous markets. On the water, you can choose between remote bone-fishing expeditions, snorkeling, surfing, and (of course) great beaches to relax on. If you’re looking for luxury during your Bahamas wedding, plenty of islands cater to an elite crowd, with rejuvenating spa treatments, and great restaurants and shops.
We’ve enlisted Carolyn Drummond, a Certified Destination Wedding Specialist with DestinationWeddings.com, to round out some of the key Q&A’s about planning a wedding in the Bahamas.
What are the marriage license requirements in the Bahamas?
Marriage licenses and certificates can be obtained via the office of the Registrar General in Nassau. A one-day residency requirement applies for couples. Cruise passengers must obtain a letter from the Ship’s Purser or Guest Services confirming 24 hours in Bahamian Waters. Proof of identification and residency are required for members of the bridal couple and should include: a valid passport, birth certificate and photo ID and the entry stamp in your passports. Additional documentation may include notarized affidavit that parties are unmarried, if divorced – The Divorce Decree and if widowed, Death Certificate of deceased spouse. Two witnesses over 18 years old are required, but can be provided if only the two of you are present.
