If you’ve visited this blog before, you know I’m a fan of the DRAMATIC when it comes to wedding music. It’s the one time in life when you get to play DJ to a crowd of people, and sort of create your own music video, so why not go all out!
I went to college in Memphis, and to this day it’s still one of my favorite cities I’ve ever lived in (and yes, some days I even love it more than NYC!). It’s just got so much character, and this song is an example of that.
If you’ve ever been to Memphis, or are planning on going, you should definitely tour the Stax Museum, the former home of Stax Records, when you’re there. It’s the record company that launched the careers of Otis Redding, the Staple Singers, Booker T. and the MG’s, and of course Sam & Dave. The duo had a string of hits, including “Soul Man” and “Hold On I’m Comin,” which is one of my favorite songs from that era. When you go to the museum, you’ll hear the funny story behind the song, which involves the duo on the recording studio, one of them taking a bathroom break, and the other one yelling for them to hurry up and finish (you get the drift).
If you have an ironic sense of humor like me, this song would make a GREAT one to walk down the aisle to. It’s fun, energetic, and definitely let’s people know what kind of night they’re in for.
