Wedding Song: Where or When

I’ve been listening to the Charles Mingus radio station on Spotify lately (they do an awesome job on their stations if you haven’t heard them before!), and this song came on the other day and I remembered how much I loved it, and how perfect it would be for a wedding song.

There are several versions of it, as it was originally produced for the 1937 Rodgers and Hart musical Babes in Arms. The Belmonts have covered it, Frank Sinatra, even Harry Connick Jr. (which if you’re a dork like me know that his version was on the When Harry Met Sally soundtrack). While I LOVE the lyrics (below), I really like the Wynton Marsalis cover of this song, which is instrumental and so, so pretty (and was one I heard on the Mingus station). I think it would be a gorgeous first dance song. It’s so dreamy and romantic…

The lyrics to “Where or When” are below. Aren’t they beautiful?

It seems we stood and talked like this, before
We looked at each other in the same way then
But I can’t remember where or when

The clothes you’re wearing are the clothes you wore
The smile you are smiling you were smiling then
But I can’t remember where or when

Some things that happened for the first time
Seem to be happening again
And so it seems that we have met before
And that we laughed before, also loved before
But who knows where or when
