This is the Most Expensive State to Get Married In

It’s no surprise that a wedding in New York typically costs more than one in Kansas, but a new study from 24/7 Wall St. shows just how big the price difference is. The investment site used data from The Wedding Report Inc., which issues annual reports about industry spending and trends, to determine the average cost of a wedding in every state.

The figures ultimately ranged from $15,000 to $40,000, factoring in regional differences in the cost of goods and services, along with typical state income.

Couples living in the Northeast typically spend the most, while the states with the least expensive weddings are in the South. However, only Americans in eight states spent less than $20,000 on the average wedding.

Overall, the average American wedding comes out to be more than $25,000. See where your state falls in the ranking from least to most expensive below!

Hawaii comes out on top as the state with the highest average wedding cost. This makes sense for a number of reasons, like the state’s wedding dresses and rings also being the most expensive in the country. Plus, Hawaii — along with Alaska, ranked at number six — are geographically isolated, so things that are relatively affordable in other states might be more expensive since they’re harder to obtain.
