This is the Most Expensive State to Get Married In, And It’s Not Where You Think

“Love doesn’t cost a thing,” they say, but if you’ve been anywhere near the modern wedding industry, you’d know that’s far from true. The price of proclaiming your love in front of friends and family can be a significant investment. And while the love shared between two individuals is beyond valuation, the cost of making that commitment official? Well, that has a pretty clear price tag in certain parts of the U.S.

In 2022, the average cost of a wedding in the U.S. was roughly $30,000, as per The Knot’s survey of 12,000 couples. That’s a $2,000 hike from the preceding year, a surge attributed to inflation and intense demand. When considering a major city wedding, expect to shell out anywhere between $47,000 to $60,000 to say your wedding vows in places like San Francisco, New York, or Chicago. Contrastingly, a wedding in cities such as Minneapolis or Houston might set you back between $25,000 and $29,000.

Now, when you bring state averages into the picture, things get even more intriguing. The Knot’s research unearthed the top 10 most expensive states for nuptials:

10. California: $37,000
