Our average base cost for a Lowndes Grove wedding is calculated by figuring a 125-person guest list for a Saturday wedding in peak season for 5 hours using their food and beverage minimum. Price includes rental of a 60 x 60 sail tent on the front lawn (priced at $3510). Entertainment, flowers, additional decorations and rentals, transportation, and photography are not included. Price is rounded up to the nearest thousand. Gratuity and sales tax is included.

Facility Rental Fee: The Lowndes Grove fee breaks down as follows:
Peak Season (September-November; March-June)
- Friday: $6,500 and $12,000 food and beverage minimum
- Saturday: $8,000 and $18,000 food and beverage minimum
- Sunday: $6,500 and $12,000 food and beverage minimum
- Mon-Thurs: $4,500 (no food and beverage minimum)
NOTES: December is 25% off all rates and no food and beverage minimum. January, February, July and August is %50 off all rates and no food and beverage minimum.
What’s Included: The venue is yours for 4 hours. Also, since you will be the only wedding that day you may access the property in the morning to start setting up. Overnight accommodations for the bride/groom are also included for one night.
Extras: You may rent the venue for up to 2 additional hours at $500 per hour. While the venue does not charge extra for ceremonies on property, clients will typically extend to a 5 hour rental when having one. Also, Lowndes Grove does not allow music inside the home, so an exterior tent is required for dancing. The rates range from $315 to $6,000 depending on the location, size and material.
Food/Beverage: You must use their in-house catering, which is run by Fish Restaurant in Charleston.The average per person price with a full bar, hors d’oeuvres, and dinner $110++ per person.

How Will Grandma Get There? The Lowndes Grove is located in the Wagener Terrace neighborhood, which is just north of Hampton Park and The Citadel. It’s roughly 3 miles from downtown Charleston and 11 miles from the Charleston International Airport. While there are a ton of hotel options in downtown Charleston, the property also offers five guest suites (three in the Main House; two in the River House) available for event day rental with private baths and period furnishings. The second floor suite in the Plantation House (which is also used as the Bridal Suite) is complimentary the night of your event. Other room rates range from $140-$160.
Party On! There is a strict noise ordinance in Charleston, which means your event must end by 10:30 p.m. Sunday-Thursday, and 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The last dance is typically played 20 minutes before the event end time to ensure guests are departing on time.
The Report:
Lowndes Grove, built circa 1786, has a Main House and a smaller River House overlooking the Ashley River. This Georgian-style National Historic Landmark sits on 14-acres surround by oak trees, and was restored in 2007 by Patrick Properties Hospitality alongside a team of architects, artisans, landscape and interior designers.

I visited Charleston for the first time last year, and not only is it a great honeymoon destination, but the venues there are gorgeous (the Lowndes Grove included). Charleston is extremely accessible for guests flying in from out of town, and the fact that immediately family can stay on the property is a huge bonus. If the weather permits I would definitely have a ceremony by the dock with a tent on the main lawn for dancing. Keep in mind that with any older house, the reception tables are going to be spread out throughout the property vs. having one main room. But that can be charming in a place like this, and a fun opportunity to create different themes if you want! The floorplan is below.
