There’s something SO FUN about a bride’s “something old” being totally unexpected and unique, like a grandmother’s purple square-dancing petticoat! Which is exactly what bride Lauren did for her St. Louis wedding earlier this summer to Jon. Not only that, but she paired it with a blush Monique Lhuillier gown and floral shoes. We’re liking this bride. A LOT.

Jon and Lauren met while teaching English in Korea. Their lives and love are often described as kismet, and their wedding day was no different. While shooting between the ceremony and reception, the bridal party wanted to have some coffee but the shop they ended up choosing was closed. As they were about to leave in disappointment, a vintage vehicle in the early days of restoration pulls up and the driver offers to let us shoot the couple and the car. Moments later a shop owner came out with a fox stole for Lauren to wear. She said it was ‘just what the bride was missing’ for her pictures with the car.
When you start off the day with a bride wearing a purple petticoat and a groom that has what the photographers lovingly described as a “magical beard,” it’s hard to go wrong. Bride Lauren said it was the contributions from friends and family that really made the day special.
More from Bride Lauren…
It really was the most amazing day! My friends and family did so much and their talents really showed through. My aunt Lisa made the cakes, my cousin Elizabeth did the flowers (that we bought at Trader Joes!), and my best friend and Maid of Honor Jill played the violin while she walked down the aisle. Her husband Ryan made my dreams come true and arranged a violin/keyboards version of The Jurassic Park theme for all the wedding music. And we did it all for about $11,000! It was the most fun.
From their ceremony in front of the lake to their reception at a historic St. Louis venue with a DJ spinning records and bursts of color throughout, this St. Louis wedding has a cool and funky ease to it that just looks FUN. Check out the photos below for more inspiration! And thanks to Jon and Lauren and Oldani Photography for sharing!
