Country star Luke Combs wed longtime girlfriend Nicole Hocking earlier this month, and their wedding cake almost broke the internet.
While the pair had planned a larger ceremony and reception for this year, their plans were of course changed like so many other couples. But that didn’t stop the singer and his love from having a little extra fun when it came time to cut their cake made for two.
The pair, who plan to have a larger celebration sometime next year, took Combs’ hit, “Beer Never Broke My Heart” literally with a cake designed to look like a beer can with the message “Nicole & Beer Never Broke My Heart,” emblazoned on it.
“Yesterday was the best day of my life. I got to marry my best friend. I love you @nicohocking, here’s to forever,” Combs wrote to his wife on Instagram.
Hocking, who met Combs in 2016 when his first hit single, “Hurricane,” broke the charts, wrote a similar love message:
“Yesterday was the most special day!! I’m so happy to spend the rest of my life with you! Although we wish would could have had every single one of our family & friends there, we can’t wait to celebrate with everyone next year!”
TRENDING NOW: How Much Do Wedding Cakes Cost?
Seeing Luke Combs’ wedding cake had us wanting to find more cakes just like his. Truth be told, we didn’t even know what this type of cake was called, but it seems perfect for couples celebrating at home just the two of them or with a smaller group! Why have a traditional wedding cake when you can have something a bit more kitschy like Luke Combs’ wedding cake.
Commonly referred to as an illusion cake, these are cakes that are designed to look like something else (such as a beer can like Luke Combs’ wedding cake, or more commonly another piece of food). For more info on how they’re actual made (they typically have lots of layers and either fondant or molding chocolate, as baker Natalie Sideserf explains in this video where she walks you through how she made an amazing Baby Yoda cake.)
So, if you’re interested in an illusion cake, where do you find a baker that makes one? It’s not as easy as you think. I would do a local Google search obviously and call a baker whose portfolio you like and ask them if they make illusion cakes. If they don’t know what you’re referring to, move on to the next.
Want an illusion cake but not sure what type you would get? Think about things you and your partner love…like a particular food you ate on your first date, or even your favorite Netflix series. You can also get some major inspiration from the picks below, including some from Luke Vincentini, who is know as one of the best illusion cake bakers out there!
