More Stats:
Space Type: Inside/Outside
Size: From 10-1,000 guests for receptions
For weddings with more than 50 guests, the venue suggests having the wedding ceremony in front of the mansion under the Cathedral of Oaks. For receptions, the Hampton Fountain Court, Grand Lawn, Neptune’s Ballroom and Courtyard as well as the climate-controlled Pavillion are all options. You can read more about the ceremony/reception venues at the Houmas House here.
Bridal Suite: There is a bridal suite for the bride and bridesmaids. The groom has the Turtle Bar to entertain his guests prior to the ceremony.
Parking: Complimentary parking is included
How Will Grandma Get There? The Houmas House also has an Inn with 21 rooms where Grandma can stay. Rooms average around $350/night and up, and included in the wedding package is a $60 credit per room per night. While hotels such as The Best Western and Supreme Inn and Suites are also nearby, out of town guests would most likely want to stay in the French Quarter, which is about an hour from the venue. I would definitely suggest renting a shuttle to take guests to and from the venue.
Party On! Events can go as late as you like (Woo-Hoo!)
The Report:
Situated on over 36 acres, the Houmas House was built in 1828 (though the venue itself dates back to the 1700’s) and completed in 1840. The mansion, originally conceived in a Greek revival style, has been the location for several movies, starting with Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte with Bette Davis all the way to Fletch Lives in the 1980’s to Love, Marriage, Wedding in 2010. In 2003 New Orleans businessman and preservationist Kevin Kelly acquired and refurbished the the Mississippi adjacent mansion and grounds. The property features 16 acres of manicured lawns, formal gardens, oak alleys, water-lily gardens, fountains and gardens, as well as Live Oaks are ranked amongst the oldest in the world. The Mansion at Houmas House is open for tours daily, seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Woman Getting Married Says:
Note: We’ll preface this venue review by saying that getting married at a location with a troubled past is obviously a tough decision that every couple has to make on their own. We are here to provide pricing information and other details for wedding venues couples have inquired about, and couples have to decide for themselves how that history will factor into their selection. Our notes below are strictly about the venue itself and how it functions as a venue if you choose to host an event here.
First off this venue is GORGEOUS. In my former life as a magazine editor I booked this location for a shoot and it did not disappoint. I’ve been a fan of it ever since! Given the gorgeous backdrop and venue options (I would definitely opt for the ceremony under the oaks and the Pavillion for the reception [or even on the lawn weather permitting!]) you definitely get a lot for your money. With that said I would consider adding extra time to your wedding package, which is not inexpensive to do. For instance, a wedding with 125 people will cost you an additional $5,000 for an extra hour. That can definitely add up, especially if you’re shuttling people in from the French Quarter as an additional cost. However, this venue is so pretty you really won’t need much in terms of decor aside from some great lighting and flowers, especially if you have your reception outside. March is apparently one of the best months to get married here, with the flowers blooming and less humidity. If you’re dreaming of a New Orleans wedding add this venue to your list!
