How Will Grandma Get There? DUMBO, if you’re not familiar with the term, stands for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass. The area has had a huge resurgence in the past 10 years, with art galleries, restaurants, bars, and businesses making it a real center of Brooklyn. However, hotels are still somewhat limited, though there is a decent selection, with a Marriott and Hotel Indigo close by. Out-of-town guests may want to consider stay in Lower Manhattan, in which case you could potentially arrange for transportation to/from the venue (or offer Uber gift cards).
Party On! Events can go until 1 a.m.
The Report:
The Dumbo Loft is located on the bottom floor of 155 Water Street, which was once used to manufacture steam fittings in the early 1900’s. The Dumbo Loft is a member of BK Venues, which features 7 lofts/venue spaces in Brooklyn such as the Dumbo Spot, the W Loft, and the Greenpoint Loft.
Woman Getting Married Says:
If you’re looking for a DIY wedding venue space in Brooklyn that won’t make your wallet cry, this is a great option. The space is big and raw yet still nice enough to be considered finished. The biggest bummer I think is that it’s located on the ground floor, meaning passerby’s can see your wedding through the gorgeous windows they have. However, if this doesn’t bother you then this is a definitely consideration. I think it would be a fun idea to get married (weather permitting) in Brooklyn Bridge Park and have your reception at the loft. Putting a lock on the fence afterwards (like the couple pictured above, did) would be so sweet!

Hi!
Thank you for the tip!! It DOES sound so romantic but you are so right…we need to keep that in mind. 🙂
This is a great venue and I’m really happy I stumbled onto your recommendation!
One comment: please, please, PLEASE don’t encourage readers to affix padlocks to bridges, gates, or any other public property. It is a huge eyesore and causes physical damage to the structure.
City Engineers across the world (myself included) have been pleading with lovebirds to stop this practice – its already caused irreparable damage to the Pont des Arts bridge in Paris. There are far more creative and less harmful ways to celebrate your special day!
Thanks 🙂
