Chances are you had little to no idea what the different wedding dress necklines, styles, or fabrics were before you started looking for “the one” (and by “the one” I mean that perfect wedding dress). If you did, kudos to you, but I personally had no idea what the difference between a dropped-waist or mermaid style wedding dress was until I tried them both on. And even though I THOUGHT I wanted a very formal, ball gown wedding dress, the moment I tried one on I knew that they were not the most flattering fit for me AT ALL. I soon discovered after trying on quite a few wedding dresses that I liked a trumpet style dress with a square neckline and cap sleeves…which was the exact opposite of what I initially thought I’d choose. And while you can’t really tell what will look best on you until you try the dress on, having a working knowledge of the types of necklines and styles will definitely help get you closer to finding “the one.”
Below is a great illustration from Paperblog that shows the different style of wedding dress necklines available. From halters and illusions to semi-sweetheart and asymmetric, as you can see there are probably way more wedding dress necklines available than you ever thought possible.
