We all have at least one or two wedding songs on our DO NOT PLAY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE list that we give to our band or DJ. You know, songs like the “Macarena” or the “Chicken Dance” or “YMCA” that you absolutely do not want played during your wedding reception, no matter how much Aunt Suzie begs the DJ.

FiveThirtyEight surveyed more than two dozen DJs who have collectively played over 200 weddings to see which wedding songs made their ‘Do No Play List” the most often. We’ve listed the first 25 of those banned wedding songs, below. What’s interesting to us is that several of these songs are ALSO on more than a few ‘Most Played Weddings Songs’ lists (like “Hey Ya,”) so it seems like couples really are of two minds when it comes to certain wedding songs.
