Wedding Song: All I Want Is You

Over the holidays I watched Reality Bites for probably the umpteenth time, and every time I did I remembered how much I loved the soundtrack. If you’re around my age chances are you played the crap out of it when it first came out…I mean, Lisa Loeb’s “Stay” is on it. What more do you need?

U2’s “All I Want Is You” is on there as well, and hearing it again reminded me what a great potential wedding song it is. For a processional, I would opt to have a string quartet do a version of it (but not the super fast classic version which I’ve heard before). In fact, I think even as a first dance song an acoustic version would work great if you have a band. But it’s a great wedding song as-is, too, so you can’t go wrong. The lyrics are below.

Now I’m going to go listen to “My Sharona,” thank you very much.

You say you want
Diamonds on a ring of gold
You say you want
Your story to remain untold

But all the promises we make
From the cradle to the grave
When all I want is you

You say you’ll give me
A highway with no one on it
Treasure just to look upon it
All the riches in the night

You say you’ll give me
Eyes in a moon of blindness
A river in a time of dryness
A harbor in the tempest

But all the promises we make
From the cradle to the grave
When all I want is you

You say you want
Your love to work out right
To last with me through the night

You say you want
Diamonds on a ring of gold
Your story to remain untold
Your love not to grow cold

All the promises we break
From the cradle to the grave
When all I want is you

You… all I want is…
You… all I want is…
You… all I want is…
You…
