Mandy and Kian met through a mutual friend over margaritas and Mexican food, and after a series of dates indulging in those same, fun things, the rest was history!
When it came time for the couple’s wedding, they decided on Key West, Florida because they had traveled to the destination so many times and always loved it. More specifically, Mandy and Kian opted to say “I Do” at the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum (complete with all of the famous cats that reside there).
“We choose the Hemingway House for a couple of reasons. One, we have two cats of our own and we both were excited to have cats around us on our wedding day!” Mandy said. “Two, we wanted a destination and somewhere tropical. I would say about 70 percent of our guests have never been to the Keys, so it was something for us to show them and experience with them!”
The big day arrived, and everything seemed to be going smoothly. The couple initially had their wedding planner rent a tent in case of rain, but cancelled it when it seemed like the weather was going to cooperate. And for awhile, it did!

“We all got ready on time, it was blue skies, hot, and beautiful,” Mandy said. “Time to start the ceremony, and it was perfect, surrounded by 90 of our favorite people. It couldn’t have gone any better. Plus, a cat was laying on my dress during our vows so it was everything I could have wanted!”
With gorgeous photos by Brandy Angel Photography, the couple was even able to take photos with the backdrop of blue skies. But as the night and the reception wore on, light rain seemed to keep coming back. No big deal, right?
“Then it pours. Like, buckets are being dumped from the sky,” Mandy said. “So, you can either let the rain ruin your day or you can embrace it — and by total Khazrai/ Irizarry fashion, we totally embraced! It was like we were all big kids again. The last time I can remember dancing in the rain I must have been six or seven years old. It was so much fun! Dancing in the rain added character! I wouldn’t change anything.”
