How many weeks/months until the big day? 5 months left!
Have you had any major hurdles planning the wedding, or has anything been easier than expected?
We didn’t want a long engagement (we’re a little older), and planning in a shorter time frame I’ve found that some popular vendors are already booked for our June wedding date – and my preferred local hotels aren’t able to accommodate room blocks. But overall we feel pretty lucky to have gotten our venue and our photographers.
What’s one thing you’ve totally splurged on and why?
Haha, this seems so minor relatively, but I fell in love with those little decorated bird house houses (decorated like human houses) to collect cards. It just seemed like a terrible waste of money, but I wanted it :p. We may also splurge on flowers since I found exactly what I wanted (ceremony-wise) in my space online.
What about saved on?
Partly because of the shorter time frame, we sent out Save the Date emails and will only send hard copies to the less email inclined.
What made you pick your wedding venue?
The combination of availability (again we didn’t want a long engagement) and the groom’s love for the Santa Monica mountains. I actually had no idea that Calamigos Ranch even existed until I read about it on Womangettingmarried’s Top 10 Southern California Wedding Venues wedding venue list (thank you!) (EDITORS NOTE: Yay! You’re SO welcome!!). I liked that it was presented as appealing to those who don’t want to make too many decisions, and we were thrilled when a Saturday June 2016 date was available for the Redwood Room!
Have you taken on any DIY projects? If so, tell us about them!
Not so much – the extent of my doing will probably be placing our personalized (stemless) wine glasses favors into purchased organza bags. Otherwise, I’ve been shopping on Etsy a fair amount on my coordinator’s recommendation – so paying others to do.
What are you most nervous about or looking forward to?
I’m most nervous about toasts and talking! I’m most looking forward to celebrating with all of our friends and family. And the honeymoon. And being married to my wonderful groom, of course!
Did you create a wedding planning timeline for yourself or just tackle things as they came up?
Right now it’s kind of trying to take care of everything ASAP. I’m traveling a week in January and half of February, so the more I have done sooner the better (I will feel).
Krissy & Owen's Wedding To-Do List
Done and Done:
We had the date/venue inside of a week of getting engaged, I sent my Save the Date email the day that we secured the venue, we secured our officiant (a friend) the same day as well, took care of the dress (a vintage sample) and photographer a few days after that, and engaged our coordinator (who worked at Calamigos in events for 13 years) a few days later, and took care of a cake tasting and selected a design that afternoon. Invitations, hard copy Save the Date cards, coordinating Thank You notes, random cocktail napkins, and favors have been ordered, as have wedding decor items from Etsy. (We’ll have been engaged three weeks this Sunday. :p)
Currently shopping for flowers, a videographer (no offense to anyone, but I am feeling a bit burnt out on watching other people’s wedding videos! It’s just a lot at once!), hair and make up (finding it a little bit of a tough sell because we are not having a wedding party so it’s just me and makeup for my mom), and just starting seeking ceremony/cocktail hour musicians. The groom still has to send his Save the Date email!
Not Yet Started:
I feel pretty behind on the music (ceremony/cocktail hour and band), and I’ve only reached out to a few people regarding photo booth and on-site child care so far.
