There’s nothing more personal and touching than a wedding that incorporates family every step of the way, be it during the ceremony, speeches at the reception, your wedding table decor or if you’re lucky enough…your wedding venue. Jessie and her groom Monte jumped at the chance to host their wedding at her Uncle’s waterfront Maryland retreat, and their wedding day turned out to be an amazingly beautiful family affair. With their adorable daughter as the flower girl and close family and friends surrounding them by a bonfire at the end of the night, it had everything they needed. More from Bride Jessie…
My vision for the wedding, first and foremost, had always been to have it outdoors. That is where I feel most spiritual…connected to life and others. When my uncle graciously offered his property on Saint Inigoe’s creek near St. Mary’s City, we couldn’t pass up the view and the chance to be on the water. For the look, I felt really drawn to a country/chic theme. I have always loved camping and the chance to enjoy some of the finer things in life, like a gourmet meal cooked over a campfire and a nice glass of wine enjoyed under the open sky. That contrast just makes me appreciate these things even more. As beautiful as everything was, the most important part to me was that people have fun and “kickback.” I think the outdoor setting helped set that tone.
My favorite moment was dinner, when my husband and I actually had a chance to sit down just the two of us and look out over all our loved ones gathered together and enjoying themselves.
I had fun juxtaposing a few elegant touches with the outdoor setting, such as a chandelier and ornate mirror hung from a tree, beer and wine served in an antique bathtub and the chance to sit around the bonfire in my wedding gown at the end of the night!
My advice to other brides planning their wedding would be to let other people help you. Some of the most beautiful touches at our wedding were other peoples’ ideas, and we couldn’t have done it without their help!
