How to Make Each Anniversary Special

Our fifth wedding anniversary is coming up, and for some reason this feels bigger than others. I keep telling my husband “Can you BELIEVE we’ve been married for 5 YEARS!?” He laughs and jokes that I say that every year, but this one I really mean it!

Relatively speaking, it’s nothing compared to those couples who have been together for so much longer (I mean, what will I say when we reach 50 years!). But there’s something that happens each and every anniversary that just feels more and more solid. Which is why the 5th anniversary gift of wood seems so fitting. I love the idea of our marriage getting stronger and more beautiful over time, complete with lines and marks and all those classic signs of aging that seem to just make it more smooth as the years go by.

An anniversary is just one of the milestones in life (and especially a relationship) that I love celebrating, which is why I was so excited when our friends at Hearts On Fire shared not one but two gorgeous new rings with me. As soon as I received them I was immediately inspired by not only my upcoming wood anniversary, but by the stories each marriage has, and each new chapter that comes along with it. I love the idea of celebrating a giant milestone (such as a birthday, anniversary, or child) with a new ring that you can stack alongside your wedding band. Like the way a tree develops a ring every year it ages, being able to represent a major event in life with something as gorgeous as a diamond band is truly special. To all those celebrating your anniversary today, this week, this month, or next…I wish you LOTS and LOTS more “rings.”
