Beach Wedding Invitations: Fun and Simple Ideas

One of the most beautiful outdoor wedding venues we can think of is, of course, the beach. What’s not to love about the sun, sand, and sparkling waters in the background as you say your vows? The best part, though, is that you need little else to articulate a beach theme other than the gorgeous setting. The rest of the details can speak for themselves — except for those beach wedding invitations!

It’s important your wedding invitation suite depicts the beachy, coastal weddings vibe you’re planning for. So, what’s the best way to do that? We’re sharing a few of our favorite tips (alongside invites we love) for your seaside celebration.

Creative Ideas for Beach Wedding Invitations

If you’re throwing a beach wedding, the invitation will be the first clue your guest has for what’s to come. If you’re having a very laid-back, surfer-vibe wedding, you could opt for invites that feature palm leaves, and sunsets. Even a surf board!

If you live near the beach you’re getting married at, consider going there to collect a container of sand, and putting a small amount in a small plastic or burlap pouch to put inside each invitation or Save the Date envelope.

Or, if you have a slightly larger budget, you could even consider sending your invite alongside a pair of flip flops for guests as an early wedding favor. You can typically find whoelsale flip flops online on sites like Amazon or the Flip Flop Store for around $2-$3/pair.

For more formal weddings, look for invites that are more moody, with ocean waves and gold foil. Abstract watercolors are also gorgeous, as are simple letterpress invites featuring sailboats, seahorses, or anchors.

To add that extra touch to your beach-themed wedding, you could definitely include the sand idea above, or depending on your budget you could include your invitation in a letter-sized box along with a handful of seashells, sand dollars, faux starfish, and biodegradable gift box filler. (You can typically find these on Etsy.) These are all fun, creative ideas for beach theme wedding invitations.

WGM Says: When sending destination wedding invitations, be sure you send them out with plenty of time! Typically we suggest sending Save the Dates for destination weddings at least 8 months before.

What Should You Say on Beach Wedding Invitations?

The most important information on your beach wedding invitation (aside from the important details like date and location, obviously!) is the attire. Guests will want to know if they should be wearing tuxedos or suits, gowns or cocktail dresses, so be sure to include the wedding dress code either on the invite directly or on your wedding website. Also, you might want to mention on the wedding website what kind of shoes to wear if guests will be spending a lot of time directly on sand.

Thankfully, Minted has some gorgeous invitations for all types of beach weddings, formal or casual. Here are some of our favorites!
