As soon as this über-chic ready-to-wear brand launched a bridal collection in 2013, women everywhere (myself included) began to swoon. Houghton’s designer Katharine Polk (pictured left, middle) has created a line for brides that is both equal parts vintage glamour and modern edginess. Polk’s designs are classic, simple, and perfect for brides who want something different without making Grandma do a double take.
“I love to experiment by incorporating special novelty fabrics into each collection, sourced from countries all over the world,” Polk, whose wedding dresses are handmade in Houghton’s New York City store. told Brides.com. While Polk understands the importance of the silhouette of a wedding dress, she also believes what’s underneath is just as special.
“Especially in bridal, a silk lining is so important — even if you can’t see if from the outside, it is the layer closest to the body and feels amazing on the skin,” said the designer. “A silk lining is what makes me want to wear something and never take it off.”

Woman Getting Married Says: The Houghton bridal line is understated yet still makes a statement, which means their dresses are perfect for the bride who wants to be casual and glamorous at the same time. I really love their separates (even though they are a bit on the pricier side), and hope we get to see even more unexpected designs going forward.
