When it comes to wedding receptions these days, it seems like anything goes. Whether you want a buffet or plated meal, DJ or band, flower centerpieces or greenery only…receptions are a great way to showcase both you and your future spouse’s style and personalities. But there are SOME traditions that bride’s choose not to mess with, and the #1 is the first dance!
A recent stat reveals that over 87% of couples perform a first dance, followed closely by the cake-cutting ceremony at 84%. The one tradition that really seems to be dwindling lately is the bouquet toss! Only 47% of brides reported having one at their wedding.
The first dance, to me, was one of the things I was most excited to plan for our wedding reception (followed closely by my father/daughter dance). We spent months picking out the song (INXS’s “Never Tear Us Apart”), and even took professional(!) dance lessons to make sure we didn’t look stupid dancing (we still did). All in all it was a super fun wedding tradition to plan, and I highly recommend any bride on the fence about whether or not to have one to do it!
Here’s a closer look at each wedding tradition, and how many couples are doing them.
