The 5 Best Experience Gifts to Add to Your Registry Right Now

We’re SO excited to announce we’ve teamed up with Thankful Registry for a new series to help engaged couples think outside the gift box when it comes to their wedding registry. Stay tuned for more fun registry ideas from Thankful and Woman Getting Married in the coming weeks!

Looking for the perfect Egyptian Cotton sheets to add to your registry can get a little dull to say the least (though I must admit I have a sort of OCD joy with the entire experience). I SO wish I had thought to add what’s referred to as an “Experience Gift” to my registry, which can be anything from a monthly or yearly membership to a one-time outing. I would have easily traded in several serving platters for a chance to take a trapeze class or learn how to say “I Love You” in Japanese. While high thread counts are awesome, it just doesn’t compare to a gift you’ll remember way after the first wash.

In addition to being a fun experience for you, it also lets your guests give you something not only completely different, but let’s be honest…something that you can’t break. (Sorry, wine glasses).

I’ve compiled a few of my favorite Experience Gifts, below, that are offered nationwide. I use (and enjoy) several of these…unlike that popcorn maker I just used for the first time in 5 years.

Do you have an idea for a unique Experience Gift? Let us know in the comments section, below!

1. Brush Up On Art

The great thing about life AFTER your wedding (aside from getting married!) is that all those hours you used to spend combing Pinterest can now be spent, you know, living life. Which can include regular trips to your favorite local museum. A museum membership will keep you up-to-date on the latest exhibits coming to town as well as fundraisers and other events that will give you and your new spouse an excuse to get dolled up for a night on the town. Check out this list of the Best Museums in the United States, or visit your favorite local museum’s website for more info.

2. It’s 5 o’clock Somewhere

Memberships like The New York Times Wine Club allow you to sample amazing wines from around the world without missing an episode of Orange is the New Black. We’ve gotten two shipments from The New York Times Wine Club and they have all been amazing so far. There are two options to choose from: “The Times Sample Wine Club” ($90/shipment) or “The Times Reserve Wine Club” ($180/shipment), each offering four reds and two whites delivered every 1, 2 or 3 months. They also come with “perfectly paired” recipes from The New York Times, which is perfect for planning a date-night in. Bonus? If you love one of the wines in their shipment, you can buy it from their store for 10% off.

3. Dine with a Chef

Why register for a regular ol’ dinner out when you can reserve a coveted spot at a top chef’s table? Whether you’re seated at a table smack dab in the middle of the kitchen or you pull up a stool at the counter, you’ll get to watch award-winning chefs in your ‘hood whip up delicacies you still won’t know how to make when they’re done. Travel and Leisure has a great list of Chef’s tables around the country worth visiting, and once you’re ready you can add gift cards from OpenTable Gifts, or directly from the restaurant in some cases (like Union Square Restaurant Group in New York City).

4. Get Your Steam On

Pretend you’re on a mini-honeymoon every month with a membership to a local spa. Exhale (which has locations in Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Atlanta, Miami, and more) offers a $150/month (per person) package that includes one monthly therapy (such as a 1-hour massage or facial), choice of a monthly manicure or brow-shaping, a $50 spending credit (to use in the spa store or towards another therapy), 20% off additional spa therapies, and five guest passes. Several Exhale locations also allow full use of their on-site gym included in your monthly fee, which is a pretty great deal.

5. Say What?

Already planning your anniversary trip to Paris? Or maybe you’ve decided to wait a year for your Italian honeymoon? Sign up for a series of classes with a private tutor or at a local language center (Fluent City has classes in New York, Boston, Philadelphia and Washington D.C.) and learn the basics of a new language (and beyond). You’re also guaranteed a pretty cute study partner. 🙂
