More from Bride Callie…
My husband grew up in Grass Valley, just a short distance from the Empire Mine State Park, and took me on a sunset walk around the park for our first date. I remember how beautiful it was and how magical it felt to wander around the park at dusk. Little did I know that two years later we would begin our married life at this very spot!
As we began planning our wedding, we knew that we wanted to create an atmosphere as if our family and friends were enjoying a relaxed evening at our home. Our ceremony was held in a green meadow under the trees, and the reception took place a short walk away on the patio. We had a ‘Rustic Italian’ theme and everything turned out beyond what we had imagined, with a look that was organic and beautiful. The flowers and event design were gorgeous and the farm to table dinner was fresh and delicious. One of the most special moments of the evening was my dad’s toast. It meant so much to us to begin our marriage with his encouragement and blessing. I will always remember his sweet words and how much joy and love we felt!
I am convinced you cannot go wrong planning a wedding as if you were having a group of close friends over for dinner, as Callie describes above. I also really love when couples have the opportunity to get married in a wedding venue that has sentimental value to them…it’s a rare privilege that makes the wedding day that much more special!

My mom and dad are both incredibly talented, and helped me to make most of the DIY projects. My dad made the amazing signs that hung over the appetizer and dessert tables and my mom helped me to design and create all of the printed pieces. We were very blessed to have the help of our families and friends and couldn’t have done it without them!
Where Grass Valley, CAThroughout the wedding planning process it’s so easy to become overwhelmed by all of the decisions that need to be made. However, I love the advice that my dad gave… He encouraged me and my husband to always keep in mind the feeling and the atmosphere that we wanted for our wedding. Having that ambiance in mind and being able to envision how special our day would be made making decisions much easier!
