25 Stunning Drip Wedding Cakes We STILL Love

When we first wrote this piece, it was 2017 and drip wedding cakes were all the rage. Well, guess what? They STILL are and we’re not ashamed to say we still love them in a big way. They have a rustic yet playful feel, and are always elegant and chic. We love how you could have a drip wedding cake at a casual barn wedding, or at a fancy black tie wedding reception.

I first started seeing the trend come across the interwebs from my favorite wedding bakers (I guess a decade ago now. Gah!) but I really started appreciating them as an amateur home baker myself.

I was living in Los Angeles at the time and we had this great, grain-free, gluten-free bakery named Sweet Laurel that had come out with my (still favorite) dessert cookbook. So many of their cakes had this beautiful drip frosting on it, and it actually made it easy to create professional looking cakes in my own kitchen. OR at least not like something I made LOL.

Fast forward almost 10 years later and I’m still hooked not only on that cookbook but on drip cakes themselves. I think they add a touch of lightness to what can sometimes feel like an overly done wedding day element.

Our favorite drip wedding cakes have a touch of metallic on them, and we absolutely love the ones with light brown caramel frosting as well (there’s something so pretty about that color!). One thing we would recommend is to talk to your wedding cake baker about your wedding theme, and how you might incorporate it onto your drip wedding cake.

Even your bouquet should be taken into consideration! Having a gorgeous wedding bouquet with peonies? Or what about tea roses or succulents? Any type of flower or greenery would look amazing on a drip wedding cake, so don’t be afraid to experiment with different combinations using your colors and wedding style.

We’ve compiled 25 of our favorite drip wedding cakes below. Let us know which ones are your favorite in the comments section!
