George Clooney said ‘I Do’ to British lawyer Amal Alamuddin in Venice, Italy this weekend, in a wedding venue that can only be described as opulent and amazing.
The Aman Canal Grande Venice, located on the canal front in Palazzo Papadopoli (the 450-year-old district is amongst the city’s oldest and smallest) is a breathtakingly gorgeous 7-star hotel that housed Venice’s poshest citizens up until 2013, when the owners turned the 5-story building into a 24-room hotel.
George Clooney is rumored to have rented out the entire hotel (where rooms start at $1,000 a night and go up to $5,106.38 for a suite) for the wedding celebration along with the five-star Hotel Cipriani (which is larger with 79 rooms) for the weekend.
George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin most likely chose this stunning wedding venue not only because of it’s amazing history (it was built in 1550 and retains many of the original details), it’s location and accessibility only via water taxi means it’s incredibly private. According to the hotel’s website: “Guests usually arrive at Aman Canal Grande Venice by boat, docking at a landing that leads directly into the palazzo’s Reception Hall.”
