What was your wedding planning inspiration and style?
I originally wanted to get married in some fairy-tale wooded setting but realized those places didn’t really exist near where we lived…so we changed to a rustic chic barn wedding. We got married at the most perfect venue, Farm Haven, and did very little in regards to decoration since the scenery was so pretty. It’s strange because I am definitely not a farm type of person, in fact I’m not even outdoorsy. But for some reason it’s what I wanted.
What are some of your favorite memories of the day?
My favorite memories are hard to pinpoint since it was such a wonderful blur, but I loved when Josh drove up and I was able to sneak a peak through a window of how handsome he looked. I loved that I didn’t have a first look with Josh but instead chose to have a first look with my father, I loved my father walking me down the aisle then crying during the ceremony!
Do you have any advice for other brides?
My only advice is to ignore any advice. Everyone said we wouldn’t have time to eat, that it would fly by, that we needed to find time to absorb the moment with each other but everything happened seamlessly. We ate plenty and Josh even grabbed my hand and said to me at one point (and this still makes me tear up) that we would remember this moment forever–totally unprovoked by me!! He wasn’t very into the whole wedding planning event but still found it important to appreciate. I think a lot of times grooms aren’t given enough emotional credit. I didn’t feel the need to force anything, including memories. My husband was invested in the emotions even though he wasn’t invested in the wedding planning part. I think a lot are.
