Whether you want your wedding ceremony to start at 3 or 6:30, these sample wedding timelines will help you figure out everything from what time you need to have your vendors arrive or when to start your hair and makeup, to making sure you end your event by your venue’s curfew. These super helpful tips will help you set up the easiest wedding day timeline to keep you on track.

Plus, several tips we share on the show include:

  • Most ceremonies last between 30 minutes (the goal) to one hour
  • Wedding receptions typically last anywhere between 4-5 hours
  • Think of a wedding taking 6 hours total—1 hour for your ceremony and 5 for your reception, if you’re having them at the same place. Otherwise you’ll want to build travel time into your schedule
  • If you’re having your ceremony and reception in different locations, you’ll want to have no more than two hours between the ceremony’s end and your reception start time.
