Since Jannina Figueroa (pictured) launched her couture lines of dresses and wedding gowns in 2013, it’s been quite a whirlwind for the 25-year-old designer (yes, 25!!). While the Los Angeles native might be young, she’s no stranger to the fashion industry, having grown up with a mother who is in the textile business. “She always took me to work when I didn’t have school. I remember sitting in the design room coloring at around 5-years-old. I didn’t even realize I was merchandising when she would send me to find fabric for garments,” Figueroa told us.
After helping with the family business more and more, Figueroa said she became even more drawn to it. “I realized I had a creative flair around the end of high school, that’s when I decided to apply to FIDM for visual communication,” said Figueroa, who said she originally wanted to be a trauma surgeon. Despite her road to fashion being “completely against my mom’s desire,” Figueroa said after several years working side by side with her mother, she finally relented and gave her the opportunity to start her own fashion line. “She gave me one exception, no ready to wear. It was bridal or bust.”
Inspired by architecture and the fabrics she grew up around, Figueroa started designing her collection in 2012, and within a year of launching she was already selling her gowns at top retailers, including an exclusive gown for BHLDN. The designer, who describes her wedding dresses as “vintage with modern edges and full of detail,” is currently working on new showcase for Bridal Week in October. She foresees “metallics” and “embellished laces” along with “very carefree [and] not so fussy silhouettes” being the next big trends in wedding dresses. We can’t wait to see what she shows off next!
Madeleine Fig Wedding Dress Collection 2022
Woman Getting Married Says: I had a chance to view Jannina Figueroa’s Madeleine Fig wedding dress line at a bridal event in Los Angeles the other week, and I seriously fell in love with her designs. I wanted to wear them all…right then and there! The dresses were a breath of fresh air…the fabrics are amazing, and the silhouettes are unexpected and fun. I don’t think pictures do her dresses justice at all, and that you should definitely see them in person to get the full effect! She’s definitely a designer to watch out for.
