Born in Virginia Beach, designer Elizabeth Stuart originally moved to New York to pursue a career in fashion marketing. It wasn’t until a business trip to London in 2005, however, that Stuart found both loves: her now husband and her dream job.
After a long distance relationship with her new British love, Stuart packed her bags and moved to London. It was while searching for a wedding dress for her 2009 nuptials that she discovered what she perceived to be a major gap in the wedding dress market.
“I can remember looking at dresses and being confronted with large meringues, statement bustles and silk flowers and I craved a more understated, elegant style,” she told wedding site Brides Up North. After realizing those dresses with “luxuriously soft fabrics, less structured bodices and NO corsetry,” were nowhere to be found, Stuart made her dreams a reality and started her eponymous line of wedding dresses in 2010. She launched her first collection in the UK in 2011, and in 2013 the now coveted designer brought her line to the United States to much fanfare. Today, her designs (which Stuart describes as “where the future meets fairytale and falls in love”) are quickly becoming a favorite among brides looking for natural silhouettes and gorgeous fabrics.
Woman Getting Married Says: From leather and lace to silk satin sashes, I love the mixture of fabrics and modern designs coming from Elizabeth Stuart. Her dresses appeal to the bride who is still somewhat traditional but is looking for embellishments and cuts that have a more fashion-forward look (like the cropped wedding dress from her 2014/2015 collection), which is more and more of us! I’m so excited to see where the line goes next!
