2016 was filled with a lot of ups and downs. From an election that felt like it would never end, to losing our favorite celebrities and world events that often feel unsurmountable…things definitely felt bleak! But the beauty of love and weddings still shine through in good times and bad, which is what we like to focus on here at Woman Getting Married! That’s why we wanted to highlight some of the most amazing wedding moments we came across this past year, below. They made us laugh, cry, and basically have every other emotion in between. But all of them are definitely worth sharing. Let us know which story touches you the most in the comments section! In the meantime, let’s all say goodbye to 2016 and hello to 2017! We hope it’s a great one.

1. A Photo Shoot to Celebrate a Couple’s 63rd Wedding Anniversary

Is there anything sweeter than this photo shoot where the couple looks just as happy as they were 63 years ago? We don’t think so! Looking through these photos immediately makes us smile.

2. This Incredibly Sweet Marriage Proposal

This Philadelphia woman’s boyfriend surprised her with a ring on her 21st birthday, and her reaction is amazing.

3. The Married Couple That’s Still Eating Their Wedding Cake 61 Years Later

A long-standing wedding tradition says you should save the top tier of your wedding cake and take a bite on your first anniversary (we’re guessing for good luck?!). If not stored properly (which is pretty hard to do) the cake can taste pretty gross (trust us, we tried it and it did). One couple in Florida has taken it to a new level, however. They have been taking a bite of their 61-year-old dark fruitcake wedding cake each year. Though it looks unappetizing, the couple says it tastes just as good as it does on the day of their wedding! When it dries up, they just pour some brandy over it and take a bite.

4. These Incredible Wedding Photos from Yosemite National Park

What happens when a photographer stumbles on a wedding during sunset in Yosemite National Park? Well, some pretty incredible photos of a couple on a cliff, and a photo that went viral on social media.

Hey everyone! By now you’ve probably heard that the bride and groom was tracked down! With the blessing of @misscatherinemack I wanted to share one more image of her with her husband @rickdonaldd and I also wanted to draw attention to @taylormccutchan and @derekcopenhaver who were the photographer and videographer with the couple that evening out on the trail. If you haven’t checked out their accounts please do! I was able to speak with Taylor via phone yesterday afternoon here in Hawaii and confirm he was their photographer as I didn’t know who anyone was when this all started and he was extremely nice! Then a couple hours later I was able to speak with Catherine on the phone after she posted on Instagram which was pretty surreal! I’ll be sending them a few photos later this week for their own personal use. Congratulations again to Catherine and Rick and I hope you two have an amazing honeymoon!

5. This Awesome Choreographed Groom’s Dance

There’s a reason this video has 31 million views on Facebook. This choreographed wedding dance was done absolutely, hilariously, right.

6. This Couple’s Story about a $130 Engagement Ring that Means the World

“My husband doesn’t have a lot, neither of us do. We scrape and scrape to pay bills and put food in our bellies, but after almost 2 years of dating we decided that we couldn’t wait anymore, so we didn’t. I wasn’t even thinking about rings, I just wanted to marry my best friend, but he wouldn’t have it. He scraped up just enough money to buy me two matching rings from Pandora. Sterling silver and CZ to be exact. That’s what sits on my ring finger, and I am so in love with them.” We couldn’t agree more!

7. Wedding Photos 70 Years Later

This couple, who married in 1946 with a 15-minute ceremony, unfortunately had no photos of their original wedding day. So 70 years later, the couple’s granddaughter arranged for wedding photos to celebrate their love and commitment. They are truly adorable.

8. The Fake Airline Video Proposal

How adorable is this creative proposal created by a man who planned to propose to his girlfriend mid-flight? As someone who also got engaged on an airplane, you can imagine I’m obviously interested in these stories. Nevertheless, you’ll love it.

9. A Tale of Good People

When this woman lost her engagement ring in Lake Michigan, she turned to social media in a last-ditch effort to see if anybody would find the post and recognize her ring. So when a good samaritan–who happened to be the President of the Michigan Detector Club– contacted her to try and help her find the ring (and then actually found it 48 hours after it was lost) she called it a miracle. We love stories like this!
