The famous New York City bridal “emporium” has partnered with your favorite flash sale site, Gilt.com, to bring 150 dresses (sample sizes and discontinued styles) to the online masses. Each one of the dresses was photographed in the store.
“We wanted to capture the spirit of their environment,” said Gilt senior editorial director Tracey Lomrantz Lester.
Even though this is great news for those brides who don’t live in New York City, it’s bad news for the 300+ brides who typically line up for the Chelsea store’s sample sale since it will only take place online (which means everyone’s up against some pretty tough competition). Our advice? Be sure to check out Gilt.com as EARLY as possible, and take advantage of the site’s full preview of the sample 24 hours ahead of time.
While the online sample sale won’t get you counseling from a Kleinfeld sales rep like in-store customers do, the store’s experts have come up with tips and suggestions for each of the sample sale dresses, which come from designers like Badgley Mischka, Isaac Mizrahi and Reem Acra at up 50 percent off. In fact, a Pnina Tornai gown will reportedly sell for $19.41 in honor of the year Kleinfeld was founded.
“All of our samples are in great shape,” said Mara Urshel, co-owner of Kleinfeld, who adds that the store has 150 sample dresses at any given time in the store. “We send everything to the dry cleaners periodically and have the dresses repaired.”
I for one purchased my Atelier Aimee wedding dress at a sample sale, and probably wouldn’t have purchased it otherwise if it hadn’t been so drastically reduced. If you’re looking for a wedding dress, ladies, I highly suggest you wake up early and get shopping!
