Honeymoon Idea: Apartment Rentals in the 10 Most Romantic Cities

best honeymoon cities

Trying to plan a honeymoon can sometimes feel as stressful as planning your wedding. Not only do you have to figure out where to go and what to do but the best place to stay, which can honestly sometimes feel like the equivalent of finding a wedding venue!

While we decided to hop around during our two-week honeymoon, going to cities such as Venice, Rome, Dubrovnik, Florence, and Sienna in one trip sometimes felt like we had planned too much. Not that we didn’t LOVE our honeymoon, but it’s our one-week anniversary trip to Paris that we ALWAYS think about. It was hands down our favorite trip ever, and I think a lot of that had to do with renting an apartment. We loved having a base there, and my husband to this day still talks about how much he loved going out every morning to get us a baguette and coffee to eat at the apartment. You really get a sense of living there when you rent an apartment, which I think makes you appreciate the city you’re in even more. On top of that, our rate of $200/night for a 1-bedroom apartment in the Marais (my favorite area in Paris) was way better than we could have found at a hotel. It’s a win-wine.

Inspired by Travel and Leisure’s “World’s Most Romantic Cities” list for 2014, I thought it would be helpful to do a vacation apartment rental search in 10 of the cities for those of you currently planning a honeymoon. And while I hope this list is helpful, let’s be honest: Researching these was more than fun for me. I”ll pretend I’m planning a vacation ANY day of the week.

Why I Chose These Apartments:

While I limited my search to Airbnb apartments for this piece, I have stayed in other apartment rentals and loved them. I do think the selection on Airbnb is pretty great, however, so they are a fantastic place to start. I should also warn you that I’m a bit of a diva when it comes to vacation apartment/hotels, so while I looked for listings $250/night and under, my selections are based on places I would personally feel comfortable staying in (from the photos/reviews I can see) as well as their prime locations. With that said, there are a TON of options out there for those honeymooners who are looking to go above OR below that budget. For these purposes, however, I wanted to keep the rates as reasonable as possible while still giving you an apartment option that felt special enough for a honeymoon. I also looked for areas that were considered great to stay in, or central enough to walk or take public transportation to sites and bars/restaurants.

P.S. Let me know if you have any questions OR recommendations for these cities in the comments section below!

P.P.S: For each of these city searches I selected the dates July 17-24, 2015 for two guests for a 1 bedroom apartment/house with wireless internet. Some of the selections that came up are 2 bedrooms, which just means more room for your luggage if you ask me! 🙂
