The style world was abuzz this weekend over the wedding dress Olivia Palermo wore at her wedding to beau Johannes Huebl in Bedford, New York.
Olivia Palermo, known for her preppy style and twist on the classics, wore head-to-toe Carolina Herrera. While her choice of wedding dress designer wasn’t surprising, it was the combination of what she wore that has everyone taking notice. Olivia Palermo paired a simple cashmere cardigan with a tulle skirt made of silk, satin, floral details, and a high-hemline OVER white shorts. Yes, wedding shorts have finally arrived, thanks to Olivia Palermo. I personally love the look, and while I’m not sure I would have been bold enough to wear it to my wedding, I think it could look great on a bride going for a casual, laid-back look (think backyard or garden wedding).
If you love Olivia Palermo’s wedding style but it’s not quite for you, I think her look could also be PERFECT for your bridesmaids. You could gift them a cashmere sweater (every gal needs one), or have them pick one up on sale (like this cashmere pullover from Lord & Taylor for $49). Paired with a tulle skirt (like this one from Etsy for $70) in white, ivory, blush, or another fun color and you’ve got a new take on a bridesmaid dress. Plus, your ‘maids can wear this tulle skirt with just about everything later one (like the model in the photo below). For shoes, you can dress the outfit up by wearing a metallic or colored peep-toe, or for a spring or summer wedding wear a cute paid of stripe espadrilles (like these UGGs for $109, pictured). If you’re not into the matching bridesmaid look, have each girl pair their tulle skirt with a different style top in the same color family for a unique twist on the typical bridesmaid dress.
