Registering is like the adult version of being a kid in a candy shop. That ice cream maker? Milkshake mixer? Fancy china? Eeeek, we just love it! And while all these things are great for the occasional use, sometimes it’s difficult to FOCUS and actually register for the things we need each and every day. Here are seven items we think should be on EVERY couple’s wedding registry.
1. The French Oven
Besides just looking amazing on your countertop, Le Creuset’s Enameled Cast Iron French Oven is really an awesome kitchen friend. From soups, to casseroles, roasts and one pot meals (my personal favorite), you can use this item every day to make a totally different dish. You can even make carb-happy items like desserts, cakes and breads (yes, please!). It’s induction and oven safe, and if you haven’t used a Dutch oven before it’s a pretty unique kitchen item as the lid easily traps in heat and seals flavor, creating foods that are full of moisture and well, everything just seems to taste more awesome with it.
2. Quality Knife Set
It sounds silly but trust us when we say your cooking life will TOTALLY change with one great knife set. One of our favorites is Wusthof’s Gourmet 10 Piece Block Set. The set includes a peeling knife, spear point paring knife, 2 utility knifes, serrated utility knife, bread knife, cook‘s knife, steel, kitchen shears and a slot block. P.S.: If you don’t know which knife to use for what, you’re not alone (I didn’t).
3. Stand Mixer
If there’s ONE kitchen item that’s a registry MUST, it would be the KitchenAid Artisan Series 5 Qt. Stand Mixer. It’ll literally become the center of your kitchen. The Stand Mixer comes with a 5-quart stainless steel mixing bowl and a flat beater (for cookies), dough hook (for breads) and wire whip (for adding air). But the reason this mixer is so awesome is that you can swap in attachments like pasta makers, food grinders, and ice cream utilities for whatever you’re making. Plus, because of its 5-quart container, you can make 9 dozen cookies, 6 loaves of bread and 7 pounds of mashed potatoes in ONE batch. Now, if only we had a big enough oven.
4. Luxe Sheets, Towels and a Duvet
A great plush towel can make your shower feel like a spa experience. Marry (pun intended) that with getting into a comfortable bed with luxe linens and a cozy duvet each night and you’ll be halfway to feeling like you’re on a nonstop vacation (well, minus the having to go to work part). My husband and I splurged on our mattress and bedding set and it was one of the best registry decisions we made. Here are a few of our faves:
Towels: The Twillery Co.’s Clarke Cotton 6 Piece Towel Set is made of 100% cotton and comes in a variety of neutral shades. This set is a great go-to for your master bath and guest suite.
Sheets: For sheets, we’re fans of The Twillery Co.’s Twain Luxury 1000 Thread Count Egyptian Quality Cotton Sheet Set. This set boasts 100% Egyptian Quality Cotton and has classic piped details. It also comes in a ton of colors.
Duvet: One of the things we love most about our bed is our linen duvet set. It’s so (SO!) cozy, and is warm enough during the winter but not too heavy for the summer. Echelon Home’s Washed Belgian Linen 3 Piece Duvet Cover Set comes in five colors, and the set includes a duvet cover and two shams (standard shams are for the full/queen set and king shams for the king set). The best part is if you opt for a light color you don’t have to worry about stains because it’s machine washable. And, it only gets softer with every wash J.
5. Slow Cooker
Have you ever made chili in a slow cooker? It’s SO good. We purchased a slow cooker and it was a staple during Sunday afternoon football marathons. It was especially great for the fall and winter months when all you want is a warm bowl of comfort food. And we’re not just talking chili. Short ribs, a decadent mac and cheese, tasty soups, pulled pork and even enchiladas are a breeze to make with a slow cooker like this 6-Quart Smart-Pot® Slow Cooker. It requires minimal cooking and supervision, which means all you have to do is set it to high or low and check occasionally. Dinner is served!
6. Cookware Set
Anyone else have a collection of mismatched pots and pans? Yeah, it’s not amazing. Especially when you’re cooking and everything gets stuck to the bottom of the pan (ugh!). And although it still gets the job done, it’s time to upgrade your cookware to adult standards. Enter your awesome new cookware set. We love All-Clad, and this All-Clad Stainless Steel 10 Piece Cookware Set has all the necessities. P.S. Big-ticket items like this cookware set make a great group gift item, which you shouldn’t be afraid to add to your registry. In fact, we say the more, the merrier. Dining table? Hot tub? WHY NOT!
7. Coffee Machine
Life gets hectic. You need a coffee machine. From your good ol’ Mr. Coffee, we love the Mr. Coffee 12 Cup FTX Programmable Coffeemaker. This one includes a water filtration system and programmable features like a timer and strength selector, as well as auto-pause (so you don’t have to wait for the whole pot). For those of us who prefer espresso, a Nespresso is one of the easiest (and tastiest!) options. We love the Nespresso VertuoLine Coffee & Espresso Maker.
