The Report:

Built in 1928, the Greystone Estate is owned by the city of Beverly Hills and is registered as a National Historic Landmark. Edward Laurence Doheny was the original owner of the property, and he along with his friend Charles A. Canfield were the first to strike oil in Los Angeles. He and his wife, Carrie Louella Wilkins, had a son “Ned” who eventually inherited the land as a wedding gift in 1926. Construction of the estate began in 1927 and cost over $3 million (a lot of money back then). At one point the 12.58 acres of land contained a stables and kennels, tennis courts, a fire station, gatehouse, swimming pool and pavilion, a greenhouse, a lake, babbling brooks and cascading waterfalls.

Woman Getting Married Says:

This might be the closest you’ll get to Versailles (or at least the outside of it) in Los Angeles. While the grounds are breathtaking, keep in mind that the majority of your event will take place outside if you have an event larger than 60 guests for a seated meal. Which, considering the weather in Los Angeles is not a big deal, but if you’re looking for one big open space this will not be the best bet for you. Many couples choose to only have a ceremony here, but given the fact that this is Los Angeles and everybody hates to drive (and should) that’s not always ideal. I also wish that they would make the pricing options a little less complicated for this venue. I understand that there are several different options that you want to show potential renters, but if you have a minimum of four hours required for an event, please don’t list an hourly rate. Four-hour blocks and an additional hour fee listed out work just fine. It’s just too confusing otherwise.

Party On!

  • Events must end by 10 p.m.in the courtyard, and 1 a.m. in the Grand Salon.

The Report:

Serra Plaza is located in the Los Rios district of San Juan Capistrano in Orange County. The district, which is considered to be the oldest neighborhood in California, is located across the train tracks of the Capistrano Depot, which means you can hear trains in the background from the Plaza. The plaza itself is mission-style, with clay tile roofs, adobe-colored walls, and a fountain. They are currently in the process of finishing their “Grand Salon,” which you can see below.

Woman Getting Married Says:

Now that this venue will feature an inside-option, I’m liking it a whole lot more. I’m not a huge fan of an event that is in a) one location and b) entirely outside. While the weather in California is typically gorgeous, it’s one of those things you don’t want to stress about. I think a Tuscan-styled wedding, like they did for this shoot here, would be a perfect fit for this venue. I would attempt to negotiate the fee down to $3,000-$3,500 for a Saturday night, because while I love the style of the building, I think you’ll end up having to bring in a lot of lighting, decorations, and flowers to make it look warm and styled.

Party On!

  • Events must end by 2 a.m. due to noise restrictions

The Report:

The Woman’s Club of Coconut Grove, which used to be referred to as The Housekeepers Club, was founded in 1891. The clubhouse as it’s known now was built in 1921, and is on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. While it’s been recently refurbished, they kept a lot of the old-world details, such as the original fixtures and fans, as well as an awesome coral fireplace.

Woman Getting Married Says:

If you’re looking for a great, vintage-y wedding venue in Miami, I would seriously check this place out. I love the location, and think Coconut Grove is an underrated area of Miami to get married in (aside from Vizcaya in Coconut Grove, which is definitely not overlooked by couples). Coconut Grove is right on the bay, has lots of hotels and nightlife, and is a calm (or at least calmer than South Beach) yet fun place for out-of-towners to visit. The price is right for this venue as well. I would opt for a smaller wedding here (under 100), just so you have more breathing room. You never want to be at full capacity anywhere!

How Will Grandma Get There? She stays on the property! Woo-hoo! Guests fly into one of several airports in the area, which include Telluride and Cortex. From there you can arrange for the resort to pick you up, or you can rent a car to explore the area.

Party On!

  • Since you’re buying out the entire property, you can party as late as your little heart desires.

The Report:

Located in the San Juan Mountains of the Colorado Rockies, across from Telluride (about 1 hour away), Dunton Hot Springs is a ghost town turned luxury wilderness resort. The 5-star cabins and spa include such cool features as private hot springs and cold plunges. Guests at the resort have access to hiking, fishing, yoga, and of course the hot springs. The chef sources all local food, including lamb and fruit and vegetables from their own garden.

Woman Getting Married Says:

Um, can I go here right now? This place looks amazing, and I love the idea of having your own resort for your family and friends for your wedding. Of course, that kind of luxury doesn’t come cheap. However, I actually don’t think it’s as crazy as the price sounds. Think of it like this: The price includes every meal and accommodations for your guests. If you get married in the Winter/Spring when it’s $19,000/night and have guests stay two nights, that’s $45,000 if you include tax and gratuity. It would not be unheard of to have guests contribute $300/night or more for their accommodations, since meals are included. If you recouped $300/night per cabin (there’s 13), that would be $7,800 off (you could add on tax for each cabin to bring it up higher than that). That brings you somewhere in the neighborhood of $37,000 for the wedding (minus, of course, flowers and photographers, etc.). It’s expensive, but it’s not astronomical considering every meal is paid for and you basically have an entire luxury resort to yourselves. And more power to you if you have the budget to cover the guests! If that’s the case, can I come to your wedding?
