Wedding Song of the Week: Secret Garden

I still love watching the movie Jerry Maguire. There’s several moments where Tom Cruise does his famous smile/longing stare that–I’m sorry–still totally get me. I mean, the guy is cute no matter what planet he’s from.

I haven’t heard the Bruce Springsteen song that’s in it forever, but my spin instructor played it at the end of our hour-long class this morning and I totally had one of those “I forgot how much I loved that song!” moments. Another girl in class was equally happy to hear it, and I don’t know if I was just ecstatic to get off the bike or what, but it sounded great .

The hubs thinks it’s a bit cheesy, or so he said when I played it for him when I got home…but I had two responses for him: 1) It’s Bruce Springsteen and not One Direction, so there’s that. And 2) It’s good!

I think this song could work for a processional or first dance. Give it a listen and see what you think!

Wedding Song of the Week: I’m Kissing You

I really love Baz Luhrmann’s “Romeo and Juliet.” It’s an amazing take on the story, and even when I watch it today I swoon over Leonardo DiCaprio (I mean, which girl didn’t?). And I used to be super into the soundtrack, particularly that awesome Radiohead song, “Talk Show Host” and Des’ree’s “Kissing You.” For years I really, really wanted to walk down the aisle to it (long before I had a boyfriend…yet somehow that didn’t stop me from practicing), but in the end I was in a more Nina Simone mood. However, I listened to that soundtrack this morning and I still think it’s a gorgeous song. I love that scene in the movie when it’s playing (when they first meet, shown below), and think it manages to capture that first-love feeling perfectly. I think it would make a beautiful song to walk down the aisle to (you can have the DJ only play a certain part), or your first dance song.

Wedding Song of the Week: Harvest Moon

There’s no way around it…this song is effing beautiful. It would make a gorgeous first-dance song…the tempo is perfect, the lyrics are interesting, and it’s one of those songs you can get teary to. I think I’m going to pretend this was our wedding song from now on.

Wedding Song of the Week: The Spinning Wheel

I was recently turned on to this singer, who once went by the name The Cotton Jones Basket Ride but now goes by the name Cotton Jones. I’m really loving the album this song is from, The River Strumming, and this song is my favorite. The album version (listen to it on Spotify) sounds like a cool mix between folk, blues, and do-woop to me. The hubs, who rarely likes anything that isn’t GBV, Pavement, or The Smiths, also seemed to love it, which means your picky husband-to-be might love it for a wedding song, too!
