Certain songs from certain times of life just sort of make my stomach flutter…and this is one of them. My husband danced to this song with his mom and step-mom*, though I think it can work just as well for a first-dance song. *Helpful Hint: If you’re a bride or groom and have a step-parent, instead of having a separate first-dance song with them, prevent guests from being bored to first-dance tears by splitting the song. My husband danced the first half of this song with his biological mother, and the second half with his step-mom.
Wedding Song of the Week: Covers of Sweet Child O’ Mine
by Woman Getting Married on August 5, 2011
This is one of those songs that the instant it comes on, everybody (including your Uncle) is going to recognize it. While I love the original, and have even been known to break out into a full-blown Axl impersonation when it comes on (who doesn’t?!), there’s something about covers of this song that I like even more…especially for weddings. There are two versions here…
The first one is from the Vitamin String Quartet, which if you haven’t heard of them before, check out their YouTube page for lots of great wedding cover options. This song could be a fun choice for your processional, your groom’s, or the wedding party’s.
This other cover, by the band Luna, is one of my favorites. I think it’s a great first dance option…
Wedding Song of the Week: Into the Mystic

I think this would be a gorgeous first dance song, or a wonderful father/daughter, mother/son song.
Wedding Song of the Week: Please, Please, Please…
by Woman Getting Married on July 12, 2011
It’s not just because The Smith’s are my husband’s favorite band (next to Guided By Voices), but “Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want” is one of my all-time favorite songs. The hubs walked down the aisle to the instrumental version of this (by The Dream Academy, also below). I think the original would make a great first-dance song.

About WGM
As a newly engaged writer, I had a hard time finding the practical information I needed to plan my wedding. While the wedding books, magazines, and websites I read had pretty pictures, they seemed to just skim the surface when it came to providing helpful ways for me to create the wedding of my dreams. Now that I'm married, I hope this blog serves as a resource for all you other bride-to-be's, with unique ideas for wedding venues, wedding decorations, wedding dresses, and more!
