The Best (And Worst) Spring 2014 Wedding Dresses

Bridal Market took place in New York City this week, where designers showed off their Spring/Summer 2014 Bridal collections.  I have to say, I wasn’t a huge fan of most of them. Everything ranged from a bit dull, to weird and ill-fitting and everything in between. Even the designers I normally love (like Carolina Herrera and Vera Wang) didn’t have anything I was wowed by. In fact, I actually thought Vera Wang’s collection was one of the weakest, with her introduction of black and white striped bodices that looked a bit out of place. I’m all for non-traditional wedding dress colors and shapes, but these dresses just didn’t hold a lot of interest for me one way or the other.

Seriously? I mean, this could be a beautiful dress, but who is going to go bare-breasted to their own wedding? This irritates me. And my grandma.

But, let’s not dwell on the negative. There were some highlights to Bridal Market, which included trends such as short skirts, dramatic backs, appliques, peplums (again), and capes and wraps. A few of my favorites are below. What are yours?

Best of Fall 2013 Wedding Dresses

I know, I know. I’m late to the game…but I’m finally getting around to looking at the Fall 2013 Bridal Collections. It must have been the start of this week’s fashion week in New York City that reminded me I totally missed Bridal’s back in October. Most Fall 2013 wedding dresses just became available in stores, so if you see something you like you’ll actually be able to go and try it on now. It’s also a good time to look for sales, since boutiques will be looking to clear out older seasons’ dresses to make room for the latest collection. Trends for 2013 include illusion necklines, sequins, sleeves (you know I love these), bold headpieces, and lace overlays.

Below are a few of my favorites from various designer collections. Do you have a favorite?

The Best Peplum Wedding Dresses

Peplum is popping up everywhere this fall, and while it’s always been present in wedding collections in some way or another, I’m noticing it a lot more these days. Peplum is great for when you’re trying to hide a not so flat belly, or ironically add some curves as well. I personally love when the peplum (which means “short overskirt”) is the main “pouf” on a dress versus that of a ballgown style. Below are a few of my favorites from recent collections.

Bona Drag Wedding Collection

My latest obsession alert is the new Ceremonial wedding collection for the online boutique Bona Drag. I, myself, am new to the online boutique, but I now consider myself a fan (and probably my husband, but only because he’s a huge Morrissey fan). Admittedly, I might not be quite as edgy as I would like to be for most of the rings and dresses, but I love how goth and romantic they all are.
