Wedding Hairstyles: Best ‘Down’ Do’s

If you’re leaning towards wearing your hair down on your wedding day, you have a few options. However, there’s one important thing you have to keep in mind: How well will the style hold up? Originally, I was planning on wearing my hair à la Dita Von Teese, below (or the one with the hair clip, most likely). I had a trial hair/makeup session, where I tested out the red lips and side-part/1920′s look I wanted. The hairstylist wisely told me that before I settled on this particular hairstyle, I should see how it held up over the next 5 hours (which is how long I would need it to get me through the ceremony/reception). I have naturally curly/thick hair so I thought for sure the style would last. Nevertheless, my hair was droopy and lifeless by hour 3 (and also frizzy, thanks to the Florida weather). So, I scrapped my original plan and went with a “undone” up-do and a natural lip. Bottom line is: You should test out whatever hairstyle it is your want BEFORE the day of the wedding to see how you like it, especially a “down” do. Bonus if you can bring in your veil with you to test that out as well!

Here are a few of my favorite ways to wear your hair down for a wedding. They all have a similar vibe, but it’s mostly because I’m a fan of a loose curl, rather than the scrunchy ringlets you so often see. When you find an image of a hairstyle you like, it’s a good idea to e-mail it to your hairstylist before the trial/wedding day so she can have a point of reference.

Wedding Photography Discount

The amazing photographers who shot my wedding, the super talented Elliot and Erick from the Miami-based Portrait Haus (who are beyond cute twin brothers), are offering a 10% summer wedding discount to anybody I refer to them. Tell them Lindsay sent you!

Check out their work and contact them here.

In addition to weddings, they also work on tons of editorial/commercial shoots, which you can see here. That basically means they can make anyone look “just like a moh-dal.”

If you’re also looking for a Miami-based Hair/Makeup artist, I highly recommend Makeup by Bo. She works with Elliot and Erick on a lot of their photo shoots in addition to weddings, and is really, really great. She did me, my wedding party, and my mom, and we were all thrilled. You can see her work and contact her here.

The Best Etsy Fascinators

Admittedly, I never knew these little hair thingamajobs were called fascinators until I saw the “unveiling” of several on the Today show this morning during their 500th segment on the Royal Wedding and what guests are expected to wear. Other names include “headpiece”, “whimsy,” and “mini hat.” I think the name fascinator is the best. It sounds very Superhero-esque, like a gang of women who fight crime whilst wearing tiny veils and peacock feathers. “It’s a bird, it’s a tiny hat…it’s THE FASCINATORS!”

Here are 10 of my favorite fascinators from Etsy.com that can add a little whimsy to your wedding…

Wedding Hairstyle: Taylor Swift

‘Do Style: Side-swept chignon

So, I may or may not have seen the lovely Miss Taylor Swift in the Nashville Whole Foods yesterday with her apparent beau, Jake Gyllenhaal. OK, who am I kidding? I did and I have to admit I was pretty stoked, even though I pretended to not even see them. I think she’s adorable, so I’ve been waiting to see her around town ever since I moved here. She looked as beautiful as ever, and definitely had some love eyes going on. :)

Anyway, her hair is as amazing in person as it is in pictures. The style, above, would work great for a loose yet structured wedding hairstyle. I had something close to this (pics coming soon..promise), and it was great because it stayed in place ALL night…even with people grabbing my head and kissing me (yes, it happens.)
