I’m starting to get a little nervous…

I’ve narrowed down my wedding cities to two: New Orleans and Miami. Now that I’m really starting to dig into venues in both places, I”m starting to hear a scary phrase : “WE’RE BOOKED.”

I don’t even have a particular date in mind! I’m looking at having it on a Saturday in September, October, or November. Hell, I’d even do it on September 11 (at least we’ll always remember our anniversary.). But no…the places that I would even remotely consider doing it at are B.O.O.K.E.D. It’s become a dirty word.

How long are people’s engagements that they’re booking these places so far in advance? Do they book them before they’re even engaged?!

Now I’m starting to consider whether or not, if I really LOVED a place, we should just have the wedding on a Sunday. Most venues have that date open (it’s like the red-headed stepchild of dates), and it’s generally cheaper. It just seems weird to have people fly in for a destination wedding, and not have the “main event” until their last day there.

What do you think about Sunday destination weddings? As a guest, would you be OK with that?

My fiancée and I are getting married on September 3rd (Friday) of this year. Maybe change your date to a Friday. It’s sometimes half the cost. The place we’re having the reception and ceremony is $1750 for Friday, but jumps to $2300 for a Saturday and Sunday. Just a thought.

I’ve definitely thought about a Sunday wedding…though I’ve worried about what guests would do on that Friday night (I guess they could all come in Saturday.) Unfortunately Friday night weddings are out for me because of my Jewish relatives.:(
